When it comes to military spouse scholarships for those seeking to serve in the military, a lot of work remains to be done.
But one thing’s for certain: you need to be able to articulate your story.
In the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election, many of those looking to become spouses for the military received calls from families who had heard about the possibility, but didn’t know how to apply for a scholarship.
That’s where the Hope Scholarship Program came in.
Launched by the US Army in December, Hope scholarship recipients can use the scholarship to cover expenses for themselves and their children during their deployment.
According to the US Department of Defense, Hope scholarships are awarded to those who are stationed in “high-risk, low-income, and underrepresented areas” where their parents live, such as urban and rural areas.
The hope scholarship has been around since 2011, and the program is now administered by the Department of Homeland Security.
Hope scholarship applicants will be screened through an online application process, which is open to anyone regardless of their age.
Hope recipients are also required to have a high school diploma and to be in the US for at least two years to qualify.
For those looking for a way to be a military spouse for the first time, Hope Scholarship is a way for them to apply to become military spouses.
However, the program does require that applicants also show some support from their parents and friends.
“It’s important to understand that not everyone is able to afford to be on their own, or even to be considered,” Hope’s director, Col. Paul Bostock, told The Washington Post.
“We do want to give these individuals a sense of how they might be able in the future, but we’re not trying to be the ultimate military spouse program.
Hope’s goal is to give people a sense that it is possible to be military spouses for a long time.”
To apply, you’ll have to submit a resume, transcripts, a letter of recommendation from a family member, or other documentation.
The application period runs until April.
If you’re a military family member applying for a Hope scholarship, you should also submit a letter from your spouse’s parents or other close family member.
Hope is also looking for applicants with a high GPA, a strong work ethic, and good grades in their community.
Hope says that applicants who pass these screening criteria will be contacted through email and will receive an invitation to apply.
“This is not a program for those looking at a career in the Army,” Hope director Bostocks told the Post.
He said that Hope’s aim is to help those who need a family, whether that be a spouse or a parent, to come together and apply.
