A student from Australia has used her scholarships to take her first steps in education.
Key points:The young woman, who wants to be known as Miss D, has applied for and received a scholarshipMiss D is a junior at the University of AdelaideThe scholarship covers her entire cost of attendanceMiss D will use her scholarship to take courses at the Australian Institute of TechnologyIn a post on her Facebook page, Miss D says she was looking for an Australian scholarship because she is looking to get into an undergraduate program.
“I’m from Australia and I’m really interested in going to university,” she said.
“My friends and family are all really supportive of my decision and have helped me a lot through this process.”
“I just want to give back to the country and I want to show people that they can go to university without a student fee, and also give back financially too.”
Miss D applied for the scholarship after her parents gave her an idea of what she wanted to do.
“The idea that I would be able to do this for free was something that I was really excited about, and that was what really attracted me to it,” she told 7.30.
“It’s something I really want to be a part of and be a success, so it’s something that really excited me.”
Miss David, who asked not to be named, is a sophomore at the university.
“After getting a lot of support from friends, family and my parents I applied and I really felt like I had to go for it,” he said.
The young person, who is from Queensland, says her scholarship covers the entire cost for her entire year of studies.
“As a student you’re not able to really have an impact on the university, you’re just sort of a piece of paper that they keep on the wall and you have to go back and fill out and keep paying for it each year,” she explained.
“And then the last thing you want to do is just sit and wait for the end of your term and get on with your life, which is just really not a good thing.”
So it’s really exciting and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to go and pursue my dream.
“She says she has already started taking courses at AIT, the Australian Technological University, and is currently working towards becoming a mechanical engineer.”
When I got my first scholarship it was really overwhelming, I was a little nervous because I was just so excited, but it was very exciting to see all the support and the people that I had in my corner and they were really supportive and I got really close with them and I learnt a lot from them,” she added.”
They also gave me advice and helped me out when I was in trouble and I learned a lot and I just really appreciate it.
“Miss Dave says the scholarship will pay for her whole year of study.”
Now I’m going to do what I really love and I’ll be a student there for three years and then go on to study at university, which will be my first time ever in Australia,” she says.”
That’s something really special and I think I’m very lucky and I will definitely be a great student.
“The scholarship will only last until July 20, and if she succeeds in her goal, she will then need to take a semester off work.”
We’re not just putting money on the table, but I think it’s a really great opportunity for the students that are out there and I can really help them,” Miss David said.
